Spec Spot

2012 Demo Reel

Jammed Pack with Oklahoma Video Production!

My 2012 demo reel.  Cut in FCP X with an assist from FCP 7 & Magic Bullet Looks 2.0. There was a great step forward in my professional work that I'm pleased with. I also experimented with split screens and split screen transitions that I eventually started to apply to other work. Overall, 2012 was a great year. I did a lot of work for Grapevine Media and a fair amount of stuff on my own. I really think my skills and abilities increased over the course of the year and gave me the confidence that I had, in fact, chosen the right career. Project included:

A Winter's Solace

Castrol Spec Spot

From the Archives:

My first attempt at a true Spec Spot for my directing reel and a chance to learn my camera a little better.  The original idea was for the piece to play out more like a horror story, but that didn't work so, I came up with the sentimental copy in post.

Shot on an HMC-40, edited in FCP7, and color in Magic Bullet Looks.

Ravenswood Poptent Contest

Mixing wine with Oklahoma video production.

I did this spot for the Ravenswood Wine contest on Poptent.net and to add to my directing reel.  Special thanks to my friend Heather Mickley and her grandparents for the use of their farm. I found out about the contest 36 hours before the deadline. With no time to throw together a full cast and crew, Heather and I just went for broke to see if we could pull it off in time. Ultimately, I would have loved to have an actor to play the 'wine taster' instead of me. However, Heather's grandfather and uncle did a great job.

Batter Blaster Contest Spot

Oklahoma Video Production Is Part of a Balanced Breakfast

I did this spot for Batter Blaster's commercial contest.  Batter Blaster is a cool product and they gave us a lot of room in the creative.  I thought a tongue-in-cheek '60s style comic book mashup would stand out.

Thankfully, my mom's next door neighbor is in real estate and had a house with a pink vintage kitchen on the market.  My friend Heather jumped at the opportunity to dress and did a fabulous job helping me out on this one.  Sadly, there appeared to be a high degree of voter fraud in the contest's polls (people used bots to rack in thousands of votes in a matter of minutes), and we didn't win.  Still, I love this little piece.
